"You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realise this, and you will have strength" Marcus Aurelius
Experienced counsellor & psychotherapist specialising in eating disorders and neurodiversity.......
Hello, my name is Tanika and whatever it is that brings you here; I want you to know that you do not have to do it on your own. I have been in practice since 2018 and as a fully qualified and registered counsellor I aim to offer you a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where together, we can work though those difficult aspects of your life.
Most of my clients seek me out because of my professional and lived experience of neurodiversity – I have two autistic children, and I myself identify as neurospicy. Additionally, I have completed extensive training in Eating Disorders.
If we are a good fit and if you allow it, I will be by your side whilst you identify helpful shifts in familiar patterns of thought, language and behaviour and support your process of making positive changes in your life and moving forward.
Underpinning my work is my belief that you are the expert of your world, so in therapy, we will work with what you bring.
The focus and the aim of our counselling work will be decided by you and my hope is that as your counsellor, I can provide you with a space that empowers you to talk about things that are causing you unease and distress.
Counselling & Psychotherapy is one to one talking therapy. It is a unique opportunity to be listened to by a trained therapist who will work with you to find ways to deal with emotional difficulties or overcome obstacles which may be stopping you from reaching your potential. Perhaps there is something you would like to work towards; a goal maybe. A counsellor can help you formulate a plan and help you explore any challenges that might stop you from achieving that goal. However, therapy isn’t necessarily about achieving goals, it can also just simply be a space to explore thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental and caring environment. Therapy can take place over a short or long period of time and what is discussed remains between the client and Counsellor (unless there are concerns). The aim of the counselling process is to establish a therapeutic relationship that is strong, trusting and safe.
After an initial conversation over phone or email, I will invite you in for an assessment at my private practice in Rayleigh, Essex. This is an opportunity to explore in more depth what brings you to counselling, what you would like to change and what you would like to work on. It's also a chance to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process.
After this initial process, and if you feel comfortable to move forward then we will agree a regular time and date to meet.
Of course there is no obligation to continue after our assessment. Maybe you feel that I am not the right counsellor for you or you feel that counselling isn't for you – and that is OK!
"To my mind, empathy is in itself a healing agent. It is one of the most potent aspects of therapy, because it releases, it confirms, it brings even the most frightened client into the human race. If a person is understood, he or she belongs" Carl Rogers
