Hello, I am Tanika and this is my counselling service. I set it up during global pandemic when I had become disillusioned by my other place of work. I had been working for a mental health service within the NHS and I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the rigidity of the service and the time limited nature of the work.
The NHS is a wonderful service and I have so many reasons to be grateful for it but as someone who has worked in the mental health service of the NHS and has also lived experienced that part of the service, I can recognise that it is really struggling and is not receiving the much needed support it needs so that service users can really feel the benefit.

The reason why I have decided to dedicate my life to helping others is because I have experienced first hand how therapy can transform lives. For me it was about identifying unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving; ways that were stopping me from achieving my potential in life. It helped me to label the things that were getting in the way of enjoying my life and feeling good about myself. Through counselling & psychotherapy I was able to improve my sense of self worth; I was able to look internally rather than externally for approval and validation.
Like many people, I have been touched by sadness and challenging times. I have experienced ill health, bereavement, trauma, relationship breakdown and mental health difficulties to name a few. The relational depth that I experienced with my own counsellor allowed me to be more compassionate and to be able to trust my ability to heal and my hope is that I can do this for others.
My particular areas of interest are Neurodiversity; individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I have had successful outcomes helping neuro-divergent individuals find and develop coping strategies for sometimes debilitating levels of anxiety.

I am also interested and have completed very intense and in-depth training in Eating Disorders with a particular interest from the neurodivergent perspective.
My counselling practice is underpinned by my belief that all people are ultimately good and that we all have the innate drive and desire to fulfil our talents and potentials. My role as your counsellor & psychotherapist would be to give you the unconditional support to allow you to safely explore your needs and your wishes. My role as your counsellor is to help you reach your full potential.
After several years of working in the emergency services, care professions and more recently within a mental health setting in the NHS; I now dedicate my time solely to my own private practise. I also work with several Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP). I am also the Lead Lecturer of the L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at North Kent College.
Work experience prior to this includes:
Other work experience also includes working as a medical secretary in a children's hospice and ten years in the police service.
